Tommy Thompson MORE MORE MORE!!!

Well, as I sit here writing, our dear former governor, Tommy Thompson, sits at home deciding if he wants to run for Senate against Russ "I'm a maverick...no, really...stop laughing!" Feingold.

Honestly, this is not a bad idea. Feingold needs to go. The Republicans really have nobody else that is strong enough who is willing to run. Sure, you can say that Tommy's policies weren't the most fiscally conservative, but you can't argue that the good he did (School choice, Wisconsin Works, BadgerCare) outweigh the bad. Yea, he's not the perfect candidate, but I will be the first in line to vote for him.

But there's a problem. His family. You know that things are bad when your own family is leaking stories to the media trying to convince you not to run. Tommy will turn 69 shortly after the election. His family is not thrilled to go through another statewide election. I can't say I blame them. A statewide campaign is a huge undertaking.

Still, there's still a lot of love for Tommy here. Even without the Republican revolution that seems to be coming, I can easily see Tommy getting 50.1% or more of the vote. The biggest reason why is that he was what the Constitution had in mind...A government of the people. That's why Tommy was always good for the goofy soundbite. He was a ordinary man from blue collar roots who spoke from the heart. Did he make mistakes? Sure. He's human. Did he honestly do what he felt was right and what the people of Wisconsin wanted? Sure. Will he continue to do that in the Senate. Absolutely.

Will he run or won't he? Nobody really knows. One thing I do know is this; if he convinces his family to let him run, it will be for only one term. I cannot see his family allowing this to go on again in six years. Unless the Paul Ryan for President groundswell keeps rolling. How about an all-Wisconsin ticket...Ryan/Thompson 2012? Hmmm....
